The photo-session would be at Ideasrbulletproof home studio at Mohammadpur and would be done in one single set-up. Set-up change cannot be handled within this one-hour session offer. We would suggest the set-up based on subjects and wardrobe. One wardrobe change is acceptable as long as time doesn't exceed session time of one hour. Time for the session may be extended under special circumstances. No theme-based photo-shoots would be part of this session. To avail those, we would suggest our other offers. a) One session with the above details. Its the time cost for the photography team along with cost of the studio setup and equipment.

Viewing Session:
This is a free session. Usually this is around a week after the session when the client would be able to see the photos in their digital format and choose the photos they like for the product deliverables.

-One 6L (6"x9") image printed and custom-framed for display on desktop.

-Three 8L size (8"x12") prints would be also be there in this offer, included within the 4k fee mentioned above.

on International Women's Day.....

while thinking about what to write, I began to search my mind.... and ended up searching my soul.... to me, this single day to appreciate womanhood is nothing.... the people who are just inseparable parts our lives, they deserve a lot more than just a single day of appreciation... but its true that a day like this makes us think about them.... them... the persons without whom this world would've been without colour.... its because of this day that I'm writing this blog post... and its because of this blog post, that I've searched the inner parts of my soul....

every person in this world deserves his/her dues... and that what justice is all about... we are having to declare an international day for women because of the lack of justice... justice towards all the women folks out there.... we don't have to look too far to see how we are doing in terms of justice.... if every person does justice to others around him/her, there remains no injustice.... so, problem lies within our homes.... society is nothing but a collection of homes.... homes like ours...

being a family portrait photographer I have the privilege of getting close to families... seeing their bonds, feeling their emotions.... and I've never seen more emotion than what I saw in women... especially mothers..... yes, women tend to be more emotional.... but that what make them bring all the colours.... without them the world would've been full of colourless concretes.... I grew up around my mother; fell in love and married my wife; got another mother as a gift from the marriage; gave birth to a wonderful baby girl.... to me, women are all that I have... never had a sister, but that emptiness has been overcome with time, with the help of all the women I have around me; especially my sister-in-law (my brother's wife), who filled that position quite nicely....

to me, the meaning of women is a lot more than celebrating International Women's Day.... to me, everyday is a women's day.... but that day, women should be hand-in-hand with men and men should be with women.... thats the foundation of human bond.... and thats how it should be.....

never miss a group shot!!

group photos, especially family group photos are often neglected while they are being taken... people have too much urgency and suddenly everyone finds a work somewhere which makes them hurry.... the end result - someone is missing from the group photo.... its so common... it probably happened to everyone at least once.... but every group shot is precious.... I never found two group photos of the same group turning the same... either some people changed or they gained more members or some people went missing from the group or something else that I can't think of has happened.... the main lesson always is, don't miss an opportunity with a group shot.... either being in the group or shooting a group... its a precious moment...

this writing tries to explore some of the learning I had while shooting group photos....

 This photo was taken in 2010, and if taken again, it would be completely different

persuade, persuade, persuade.....

its true that its very difficult to get everyone in one place for a group shot... sometimes you may even have to hear some negative things for organising this, as if you're doing some harm to them.... yet, you have to have patience and have to convince others about the benefits of the venture... tell them how precious the picture would be after years....

 This photo, taken in 2010 is significant not just because its difficult to get this whole group together again, the old country-house used as a backdrop is gone now

use any camera.....

if your pro-level DSLR is too far away in your car and there's a risk that bringing that camera may result in missing the complete group, forget about the DSLR and use whatever you have with you.... this is the safe shot..... if you still get the luxury of time, get the highest megapixels and the biggest and the heaviest camera.... whatever!

 Taken in 2009, this photo can't be taken again; ever... because the central figure in the back left his loved ones within a month of taking this photo. This event was one of the biggest persuasion behind my concentration in portrait photography

forget about the technicalities....

a lot of the times we get too much involved in the technical matters and get too much into our gears.... while its OK to get the technical portions right to make sure that the end result looks good and also gives options regarding what you can do with it, make sure that it doesn't take too much time... too much time may push people's patience and may result in exclusion of some figures from the photo....

 Taken in 2007 with a 10-sec timer, this photo reminds us of our honeymoon times. The photo can be taken again today, albeit with some hassle, but it would look a lot different.

give priority to children....

if the group contains children, especially small children, always give them priority.... they're the most difficult to include in a photo... make sure they're properly fed or not feeling ill or sleepy.... and children would change the most when you do the next group shoot....

 Whenever there would be children in the photo, the photo goes old within a very short period of time. If this photo is repeated today, it would be totally different, even though it was taken less than a year ago in May 2012.

 
choose location beforehand....

if you can manage the time, choose the location well before you get the group together.... that will save time for you and you could also get prepared for any eventuality (e.g. light direction and intensity, weather, security, etc.)

use occasions.....

various occasions bring in the most number of people together, thus giving the best opportunity to get a group photo.... sometimes, we become too busy during occasions or parties and may forget group photos altogether.... get the job delegated to someone who would not forget.... if you have the latitude and if the occasion is big enough, you can think about hiring a professional to do the job for you..... that way, you don't miss the opportunity.... you don't know who might be absent from the next group photo!

In this offer, we want to tell stories through pictures. We talk to our clients, get to know them, and their relationships before we can work out our ideas. We would share our ideas with our clients before the shoot, so that they can visualise what we are up to. Such a session would also contain some group portraits defining the role of each member in the family, and some individual portraits and sub-group portraits defining characters. Keep at least 4-5 hours for such a session, including an hour's time for the setup to complete and dismantle. Location for the Shoot:
a) We are an on-location photography team. Depending on the theme of the shoot, we may be shooting indoors or outdoors. If we require a studio, we can create one at client's home! We offer our home studio for Newborn, Baby and Child photography only.
b) Outdoor location can be chosen anytime depending on shoot theme.
c) If more than one location is requested by the client or it is away from client's home, there would be extra cost charged for that. The cost would be added to the usual rates.
d) If the shooting location is away from client's home, client would provide transportation facilities for them as well as for the Ideas_R_Bulletproof team and their equipment.
e) If an away-location suggested by client requires some exclusive usage permission, it has to be arranged by client.

"My Family My Moment"... a group photoshoot offer from Ideasrbulletproof

family moments are precious.... every time we take a family group photo, it becomes a documentation of time.... for some reason or the other, no two group photos look the same.... perhaps thats one of the prime motivations behind taking group photos.... to make the moment memorable... and everyone knows how difficult it is to manage time for a family group photo... anyone who has taken a group photo would also know that taking a group photo is also one of the most challenging.... at Ideasrbulletproof, we love challenge and this is what we do.... "My Family My Moment" is an offer that would make a precious family moment last forever....

here are the details of this offer....

During the session, make time for at least one photo of the overall group, but there would be other sub-group photos as well. While setting the time for the shoot, give priority to the busiest person in the group. Also think about babies who might need sleep or feeding. Make sure that babies are in good mood for the session, otherwise the whole group may have to wait for the baby. Keep at least two hours for the session to manage everyone for the shoot and also keep another hour for setting up if the shoot is on location, rather than in our studio.

1) Sessions can be at Idea House, the home studio of Ideasrbulletproof only if the group is six (6) people or below. For larger groups, we recommend either a chosen location or client's residence.

2) A single setup would be used for the whole shoot.

perfect memories in an imperfect world.... part two....

this is the second part in four-part series...... as posted in the previous blog, Arif and Tajia are a wonderful couple.... we hardly had to do anything with them.... every time we told them to do something, they ended up doing even better than that.... so, as a photographer I only had to keep an eye on the technicalities....









the second setup was to be more symbolic than the first one.... I decided to put them against a white backdrop to get rid of all clutters.... that way, we would only be focused towards their activity and expressions.... and as a sequence of images the images were to look as part of a single story....










unlike the previous setup, this was to show the contrasts only.... and again, this is not to be taken literally... rather its a portrayal of their characters in a dramatic way and in a symbolic manner..... its more like a drama that is based on real characters, but not necessarily real events.... the drama is needed to make photos interesting and to make the overall shoot a soothing experience...














now the technical stuff.... the lighting was pretty simple.... Elinchrom Ranger + 120cm x 50cm softbox on left and Lastolite Ezybox 24" Hotshoe softbox + YN-560 flash on the right.... to create an uncluttered background, 8'x12' white backdrop was used.... two lights from two direction created a play of light and shadow, gave some depth to the image..... use of the "Lazy Light" would've made this a flat image.... didn't use any lights against the backdrop, as the subjects were too close to the backdrop... any light on the backdrop would've resulted in a blow-out!.... cheap but sharp Nikkor 28-80mm lens used for the shoot.... shot @ f10.... though about shooting @f11 may be... but it seemed that f10 created enough depth....

I had been postponing this shoot for more than a year now.... but thanks God that I've finally completed this.... feeling relieved....

Nazmun Nahar is my aunt; my mother's elder sister.... a strong personality known to a lot of people.... she had been a teacher for most of her life; lighting candles; and also leading others to do the same.... she had been the mainstay of Manipuri School for decades.... now, into her retirement, she still seeks that please in her work.... joining a much smaller school.... but doing the same thing.... teaching....



she had walked most of her path alone.... the school had been her life.... that had kept her busy for most of her life.... she had always been a popular member of our family.... well qualified and opinionated.... she is known in the family as Pakhi (meaning "bird").... indeed she had been independent all through her life..... she had been through quite a lot of medical procedures of late, which left her much weaker than before.... her discipline keeps her going.... her mental strength and willpower are exemplary, even today...





today, at an advanced stage of her life, she holds her mother's (my grandma) portrait intimately and finds all the similarities.... grandma hasn't aged a day since that photo was taken.... but that picture and others like that bring out all the lovely memories.... its just a few pictures we leave behind... but each picture holds thousands of memories....

the lighting setup was simple for this shoot.... just a single light.... a YN-560 inside a Westcott Apollo 28" softbox.... my favourite "window light"....Elinchrom Skyports used as trigger...

this is a series I am currently doing with the senior members of my family.... I need that determination to complete it.... hope I don't lazy again!

Siffat and Arafat had been great friend of us for a long time...... very frank and opinionated.... and couple of great brains as well.... brilliant students and great friends to us and to each other..... we had been planning this session for quite a while.... ever since we learned the news of Siffat, we we looking forward to this day..... two brilliant brains were bringing another brilliant brain to this earth.... so, it was more a matter of time..... once we were able to manage some holidays, it was set....






the idea was to do some individual frames for Siffat and then to do some couples shoot.... also thought about some conceptual stuff, if possible.... we traveled light for some reason.... so, we needed to be sure what we would do.... we didn't take a black backdrop, so, we needed to improvise for that.... but we did take a white backdrop, which we hung from a window.... a 28" Westcott Apollo and 24" Lastolite Ezybox Hotshoe softbox went with us as the main light.... also took a couple of extra lights to light the backdrop.... all in all, 4 speedlites (2x SB-900 and 2x YN-560)... used only one set of Elinchrom Skyport as the trigger and receiver, and the rest of the flashes were in optical trigger more (SB-900 in SU-4 mode and YN-560 in S1 mode)....









the white backdrop stuff were shot with 2 YN-560s on the ground lighting up the backdrop... the Westcott Apollo was the main light for most shots... the Elinchrom Skyport was inside it as its design implied that the flash had to be inside the softbox.... optical trigger modes don't work with it.... when I used a black background, used a second light in a Lastolite 24" Ezybox as hair light.... that was mounted on a Manfrotto monopod and hand-held (sometimes by my wife, and other times by Arafat... volunteering!!).... for the couples shoot with white backdrop, used two softboxes from two sides to illuminate both the subjects.....









the SB-900s go into hibernation, which causes problems regularly.... I have to see whether there is a mechanism to turn off the hibernation thing.... the YN-560s are much better as dumb flashes.... SB-900, as it seems, is too smart for dumb photogs like me!!.... the room was a perfect one for photography.... it was long and helped me to which to a longer lens (70-210mm).... that, in turn, helped me to reduce the required size of the backdrop....
