    Nikunja Experiment, 02 April 2010

it was a sudden opportunity.... some of us were together to enjoy the leaning sun..... we all took our camera to explore any shooting opportunity...... Nikunja is still pretty empty..... though most of the areas within Nikunja is filled up with too many residential building, there is still some place left just outside the airport runways to see an uninterrupted sky..... that hope pushed us there...... in search of an open sky...... but we got disappointed...... we didn't have any idea how quickly the whole area got filled up with people..... the last bit of open space was occupied with a lot of local boys playing cricket!!

our heart sank and we began to walk back....... all on a sudden, Biju noticed an interesting place...... a small cottage-like place filled with planks..... there were several big stacks and their patterns looked pretty interesting.... we followed Biju though we though we might attract a lot of onlookers..... the boundaries of the small place sort of protected us from the spectators...... we could maintain some privacy......

we became our own models..... Biju brought one SB-800 strobe, and that was enough for all of us....... fortunately, most of us were Nikon users, and capable of triggering the SB-800 with built-in flash..... the sun was just going down and the warm light provided with the opportunity to mix natural light with strobe light... it was also the first real shooting with my newly acquired 20mm 2.8....

    Model: Rezwan Razzaq
    Camera: Nikon D700 + Nikkor AF 20mm f2.8D
    f2.8, 1/640sec, ISO 200
Strobist info: Nikon SB800 left of camera in TTL mode +0.3EV
hand-held, with diffuser on; triggered by D700's built-in flash

I became an assistant for most of the shooting...... tried to help others shoot.... it was short session, but we thoroughly enjoyed it and had a lot of fun.... it was a short learning session for us as well...... a lesson in outdoor strobist portraiture....

we kept on shooting well after sunset....... but then moved on..... just when we thought it was the end of the day, we bumped into a mound of extracted soil..... the mound was literally glowing even though the sun was well beyond the horizon.... I helped other shoot....... and we got some superb portraiture, especially of Biju and Shawon....

anyway, the short photowalk was really productive...... we made some nice portraits.... actually its become so tough getting a decent bit of time to shoot some decent pictures...... every bit of time has become precious!!
